Family Engagement Worker

Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and families? We are seeking a Family Engagement Worker to build trusted relationships and help remove barriers to education in two Bristol schools.

Position: Family Engagement Worker
Location: Bristol, field based across schools and the community
Salary: £30,000 to £33,000 pro rata
Hours: Part-time, 17.5 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term, 1 year (September 2026 to August 2027)

Closing Date: Sunday 9th August 2026 (midnight)

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative pilot programme focused on strengthening the relationship between schools, children, their families and local communities.

Working directly with children, young people and parents/carers, you will provide practical, relational and strengths-based support to identify and overcome challenges affecting school attendance, engagement and transition. You will work particularly with families of children in Years 5 to 7, helping them navigate barriers and access the right support at the right time.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building trusted relationships with children, young people and families
  • Supporting families through meetings at home, school and in the community
  • Identifying barriers linked to attendance, engagement and school transition
  • Working closely with schools, pastoral teams and external services
  • Connecting families with community, voluntary and statutory support
  • Supporting access to practical solutions and resources
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to monitoring and evaluation

About You

You will have experience working directly with children, young people and families within education, social care or community settings. You will understand the challenges that can impact attendance, engagement and learning, and will be confident building relationships with families who may be facing complex circumstances.

You will bring:

  • Experience supporting children, young people and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with schools and partner organisations
  • Excellent organisation and record keeping skills
  • A calm, empathetic and non-judgemental approach

Experience in attendance, pastoral support, transition work or multi-agency working would be beneficial.
