Hope Education Project UKTreasurer (Volunteer) Remote | 1–3 hours per week
The opportunity
Hope Education Project UK is a newly registered charity supporting education and anti-trafficking programmes in Northern Ghana. We work with girls, young women, and children who are at greatest risk of exploitation, gender-based violence, and human trafficking.
We are building our trustee board and looking for a Treasurer to join us at a critical early stage. This is a governance role with real hands-on impact — ideal for a finance professional who wants to contribute meaningfully to a cause driven by social justice, education, and the protection of vulnerable young people.
What will you be doing?
As Treasurer, you will sit on the board of trustees and take lead responsibility for the financial health, integrity, and transparency of the charity. Working closely with the Chair of Trustees and our founder, you will:
- Establish and maintain clear, accurate financial records for the charity
- Recommend and set up appropriate bookkeeping software suited to a small CIO
- Prepare regular financial reports for board meetings
- Lead on budgeting, financial planning, and forecasting
- Manage the charity's Gift Aid registration and oversee claims to HMRC
- Prepare annual accounts and ensure timely submission to the Charity Commission
- Put in place robust financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Advise the board on financial risk, compliance, and sustainability
- Support funding applications by providing accurate financial information and projections
This is not a purely operational bookkeeping role. You will bring financial leadership to the board, helping us make confident, well-informed decisions as we grow.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant, or an experienced finance professional, who is motivated by social justice and wants to use their skills for meaningful impact.
You will bring:
- A solid grounding in accountancy, bookkeeping, or financial management
- Familiarity with charity finance, Gift Aid, and Charity Commission reporting (or a willingness to get up to speed)
- Experience setting up financial systems or working with cloud-based accounting tools
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and transparency
- The ability to present financial information clearly to a non-finance audience
- A collaborative approach and confidence to advise and challenge constructively at board level
- A commitment to safeguarding, ethical practice, and survivor-led approaches
A formal accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT) is helpful but not essential. What matters most is sound financial judgement, integrity, and a genuine belief in what we are trying to build.
What difference will you make?
A strong Treasurer is foundational to a credible, fundable charity. Your contribution will directly enable Hope Education Project UK to:
- Establish sound financial governance from the ground up
- Meet Charity Commission obligations and remain legally compliant
- Register for and claim Gift Aid, increasing the value of every donation we receive
- Build the financial credibility that grant-makers and institutional funders require
- Make strategic decisions with confidence, backed by clear financial insight
- Sustain and grow our education and anti-trafficking programmes in Ghana
At this stage of our development, the right Treasurer is not just managing accounts — they are helping to build a resilient, trustworthy organisation.
