Fundraising, Partnerships and Strategic Growth

Kidasha is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help us strengthen our partnerships, influence and income so that more vulnerable children can benefit from lasting change.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in fundraising, philanthropy, business development, corporate partnerships, strategic networking or related fields.

Our Work

Kidasha’s work spans four closely connected areas:

Protection – We identify and support children in street, labour and exploitative situations, providing outreach, rescue, rehabilitation, counselling, family reintegration and ongoing case management.

Education and learning – We help vulnerable children remain in or return to education, improve the quality and inclusiveness of government schools, and provide alternative learning opportunities for adolescents who have missed out on formal education.

Community strengthening – We work with families, community groups, young people and local leaders to build stronger local structures that protect children, support education and connect vulnerable families with essential services.

Livelihoods and future opportunities – We help older adolescents and young people build literacy, skills, confidence and safer pathways into training, employment and enterprise.

Across all our work, we seek to generate and amplify evidence so that successful approaches can influence wider policy and practice.

Why we are recruiting

Kidasha has an experienced team, a strong record of delivery and trusted relationships with local partners and government.

Our programmes have demonstrated that relatively modest, well-targeted investment can create both immediate improvements in children’s lives and wider, longer-term change.

We are now looking to strengthen the Board with Trustees who can help us:

• broaden and diversify our funding base
• build new relationships with trusts, foundations, companies and individual supporters
• extend our strategic networks
• strengthen Kidasha’s profile and influence
• identify opportunities for collaboration and sustainable growth
• ensure that more children benefit from approaches that have already shown lasting impact

We are not seeking growth for its own sake. Our ambition is to increase Kidasha’s reach and influence while retaining the local partnerships, evidence-led approach and close engagement that make our work effective.

The Trustee role

As a Trustee, you will share responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of the charity.

Working alongside fellow Trustees and the senior leadership team, you will help ensure that Kidasha remains effective, financially sustainable and true to its mission.

Your contribution may include:

• helping shape Kidasha’s strategy and future direction
• providing constructive support and challenge to the senior leadership team
• contributing expertise in fundraising, partnerships or organisational growth
• helping identify and develop new relationships and funding opportunities
• making introductions to prospective supporters, partners or influencers where appropriate
• acting as an ambassador for Kidasha
• helping ensure that the charity operates responsibly and in accordance with its legal and charitable obligations

Trustees are not expected to undertake day-to-day fundraising. However, we are looking for people who will engage actively, use their experience and networks where appropriate, and help open doors to new opportunities.

Who we are looking for

We would particularly welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

• fundraising or philanthropy
• trusts and foundations
• corporate partnerships
• business development
• strategic communications or influencing
• senior-level relationship management
• professional or international networks relevant to Kidasha’s work

Alongside relevant experience, we are looking for people who bring:

• strategic thinking and sound judgement
• curiosity and a willingness to engage with the detail
• a collaborative and constructive approach
• the confidence to challenge and support appropriately
• a genuine commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people
• an appreciation of locally led development and long-term systems change

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential. We are interested in the perspective, expertise and commitment that candidates can bring.

Time commitment and location

This is an unpaid voluntary role.

The expected commitment includes:

• attendance at quarterly Board meetings
• preparation for Board meetings
• occasional involvement in additional meetings, events or specific areas of work
• some engagement between meetings as required

The role is home-based, with Board meetings taking place online or in London.

We welcome expressions of interest from both UK and international candidates.
