Volunteer Coordinator, L'Arche London

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Hours of work: 15 hours per week to be worked over 2 days. (Occasionally, Ad-hoc, evening, and weekend work will be required).

Salary: £30,706 FTE per annum (Pro rata: £12,282.40)

Place of work: L’Arche London community houses, West Norwood

Contract type: Part time, Fixed term until August 2026 (extension subject to funding).

Reports to: HR Coordinator

Main purpose of the role:

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will be building on the work of our previous Volunteer Coordinator to nurture our team of about 60 volunteers across our Community. 

This role involves recruiting and inducting new volunteers, and supporting existing volunteers.

 

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Liaise with the coordinating team to understand recruitment needs for volunteers, and our capacity for how many volunteers we can welcome. 
  • Research, identify and follow-up networks and opportunities (e.g. conferences, events, universities, Lambeth Volunteer Service, press) to publicise L'Arche London and attract potential new volunteers.
  • Induct new volunteers, including everything from sending reference requests to doing DBS checks to delivering our 90 minute volunteer induction session (script and slides provided). 
  • Work with the HR Coordinator and co-ordinating team to oversee the welcome of volunteers to the Community. 
  • Gather feedback from volunteers who leave helping us to better understand their experience in L’Arche and make improvements.
  • Applying for DBS checks for volunteer new starters and renewing these as necessary. 

 

Key essential criteria:

  • Proactive and people-focused. Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to build working relationships with colleagues across L’Arche. 
  • Be confident in talking to new people about L’Arche and building support for our mission. 
  • Be skilled in organising a diverse workload, keeping multiple projects on track and delivered on time
  • Have a flexible and open attitude. 
  • Have the ability to deal appropriately with confidential information, and hold difficult conversations with care.
